Ollie got some nice shots of us at ANEXT 2008 in these, so I couldn't resist posting them.

Wakka is fun to be. He's goofy. I'm goofy. So it's pretty easy to put life into the costume. But I never said he was easy to wear. I constantly felt like I was going to fall apart. Although everything has remained relatively in-tact, the armor (and even sandals) are all held together with hand stitching and fabric glue.

I am responsible for all of the detail work on the costume save for the sewing of the shirt, pants, and headband, which were all done by the lovely cupcake-rufflebutt. The amazing wig is also styled by her.

The armor, sandals, and blitz ball are all my doing, which really taught me a few things I didn't know before. I discovered Gesso for the ball, which is a plain plastic ball from Walmart covered in glued on styrofoam balls. The balls were covered in Gesso to protect them from spray paint, which really didn't make much of a difference in color because Gesso is off-white, but it did add a gloss to the ball.

The armor is mostly pleather. The armor on the right arm took me forever to figure out but is actually the most stable part of the costume. Everything is held together with velcro, which is my new God. Finally, I made the base of sandals by ripping off the thongs of green sandals (from Old Navy). The new straps are made out of folded duck cloth which is glued and pinned into the base of the sandals. I kind of used the same concept that people use to make Naruto shoes, but since I am dealing with much smaller straps, I used a mixture of hotglue and industrial superglue. Those things are strong.
